They operated Kitch’n Cook’d Potato Chips out of a shack in their backyard for some 50 years. The Furukawa’s relocated the business to a building about a block away from the Deguchi’s residence in Captain Cook (Kona). The Furukawa’s stayed at that location for 10 years and manufactured the potato chips out of the same equipment that the Deguchi’s had used.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn September of 2001, they relocated the business to Manago Hotel’s new building that they had built for the Furukawa’s so that the company could expand the manufacturing of the potato chips as well as have a storefront to sell the potato chips and other snack products. The Furukawa’s also decided to change the packaging since a lot of people were confusing their chips with the Kitch’n Cook’d Potato Chips on Maui. They simplified the name to Kona Potato Chips and created a new Hawaiian look to the packaging.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eAfter 30 years of owning and operating Kona Potato Chips, the Furukawa’s decided to sell the business so that they could enjoy their golden years. They received an offer from someone on Oahu however they learned the business would have been relocated and although they wanted to retire, keeping their devoted crew intact and keeping Kona Chips in the community was especially important to them. With these principles in mind the Furukawa’s contacted Donny Andrade whom they have known for many years to see if he would be interested in purchasing Kona Chips. They believed Donny would care for the crew, share the same passion that they did, which is to offer their customers the highest quality of products possible and keep Kona Chips in our community.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSurprised by the opportunity it reminded Donny of the times, he and other students would walk up Captain Cook Road from their bus stop, where Mrs. Deguchi would be handing out bits and pieces of potato chips to them as they walked home. After meeting the crew and learning the process of producing Kona Chips he believed this was an opportunity he would enjoy being a part of. On July 1, 2021, the Furukawa’s sold Kona Chips to Donny.
