Ahualoa Family Farms
Bringing a Hawaiian Tradition Back to Life
For the family behind Ahualoa Family Farms, farming isn't a job —it's an identity. When they took the reins in 2017, they took on something bigger than an orchard: a chance to protect the livelihoods of Hawai'i's macadamia growers and the heritage they represent.
The challenge they inherited was a quiet one. A macadamia nut is useless straight off the tree — it has to be dried, cracked, and finished before anyone can enjoy it. With no nearby processor, many island growers had simply stopped harvesting; trucking a crop clear across the island just didn't pencil out. Orchards went untended, and a piece of Hawai'i's agricultural story was slipping away.
They refused to let it.
So they rebuilt it — bringing Hawai'i's oldest macadamia nut factory roaring back to life as one of its most modern. Suddenly, farmers had a place to bring every harvest, anda reason to keep planting.New equipment, growing operations, and a stubborn drive to do every step better have followed — along with plans for a macadamia nursery and fresh orchards to carry the craft into the next generation.
Every nut carries that work. Open a tin from Ahualoa and you're tasting the dedication of Hawai'i's farmers — and a promise to keep their tradition thriving.
